Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Food Health: Scan & Score (the "App"), available on the Apple App Store and Google Play, collects, uses, and shares information about you.
This policy applies to Food Health: Scan & Score on iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play).
Information We Access
With your permission, Food Health: Scan & Score may access:
- Food log entries, notes, and optional photos you create in the app
- Apple Health data you explicitly authorize on iOS (workouts, sleep, activity, dietary energy)
- Health Connect data you authorize on Android (steps, active calories, nutrition, weight, exercise sessions, heart rate)
- Approximate location for nearby restaurant discovery (Near Me feature)
- Camera for food and device photo capture
- Basic app usage diagnostics for reliability and troubleshooting (Firebase Crashlytics)
How We Use Information
- Display your food logs, nutrition reports, scatter analysis, and health statistics
- Import and visualize approved health data (Apple Health or Health Connect) alongside your food data
- Support AI-powered food analysis when you initiate a photo scan
- Show nearby restaurant partners and menu nutrition data based on your location
- Enable optional challenges and competitions with other users
- Improve app stability through anonymous crash reporting
Data Storage and Sharing
Food Health: Scan & Score is local-first: your food log data is stored on your device. Personal data is not sold. Specifically:
- Food photos: Sent to the Anthropic Claude AI service only when you initiate a scan. Photos are processed for analysis and are not retained by the AI provider beyond the request.
- Health data: Stays on your device and our server (for challenge features only). Not shared with third parties.
- Location: Used only for distance calculations in the Near Me feature. Not stored on our servers.
- Crash reports: Sent to Firebase Crashlytics. These contain device model, OS version, and stack traces. No personally identifiable information is included.
- Anonymous device ID: A random identifier is generated on first launch for credit management and challenge participation. This is not linked to your Apple or Google account or personal identity.
Apple Health Data (iOS)
- Health data is accessed only after you grant HealthKit permission
- You can revoke Health permissions anytime in iOS Settings
- On Android, equivalent functionality is provided through Health Connect (see below)
Health Connect Data (Android)
On Android, Food Health: Scan & Score integrates with Health Connect to read and write health and fitness data including steps, active calories, nutrition, weight, exercise sessions, and heart rate.
- Access requires explicit permission grants through the Health Connect permissions screen
- You can revoke permissions at any time through the Health Connect app or Android Settings
- Health Connect data is used to display health statistics, sync analyzed nutrition from meals, and participate in optional challenges
- Health Connect data is not sold or shared with third parties
Location Data
Food Health: Scan & Score may request location permission to show nearby restaurant partners in the Near Me feature.
- Location data is used only for distance calculations and is not stored on our servers
- You can deny or revoke location permission and still browse all partners manually
In-App Purchases
When using managed credits (rather than your own API key), in-app purchases are processed through the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). Apple and Google handle all payment information. Our server receives only the transaction ID and product identifier to credit your account. We do not collect or store payment card details.
Third-Party Services
When an AI analysis is initiated, selected content (photos and/or text) is sent to Anthropic's Claude API for nutritional analysis. Review Anthropic's privacy policy for details on how they handle API requests.
The app uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (Google) for anonymous usage analytics and crash reporting. This data includes anonymous usage events, crash reports with device model and OS version, and no personally identifiable information. See Firebase's privacy documentation.
